Good Morning Britain’s Kate Garraway and Adil Ray discussed whether or not the NHS should be abolished on ITV today.
Kate Garraway on GMB
Good Morning Britain fans hit out at host Kate Garraway today (September 20) as she and co-star Adil Ray discussed a controversial topic – the NHS.
The ITV star has been an advocate for the care that her late husband, Derek Draper, received from the health care service while suffering from long covid before his death in January. Fans were disappointed to see the GMB presenter take part in the discussion as others picked up on an “annoying” habit of hers.
Explaining the controversial topic of discussion Adil said: “So we’re debating this morning whether the NHS should be abolished. Instinct have come out and said that we should look at other models, look at Europe and some of the other countries in Europe, that have insurance models. Social security, some of them call it.”
Adding her thoughts to the debate, Kate said: “You see, I think that there’s various systems that are being looked at, and they’re always a little bit ‘the devil’s in the detail’.
“One of them is the Netherlands, other systems like in France, and they have some form in the Netherlands of a payment that’s mandatory. Everybody has to pay into a form of health insurance.
GMB discussed scrapping the NHS on ITV
“I haven’t studied the model closely myself, and it isn’t massively clear from the report, but you know it’s whether that would be government backed or how that would work?”
She added: “I mean are we at a crisis point where we have to look? We know the NHS is just a treasure, but we have to look at other ways.”
Fans on Twitter/X were outraged, with one writing: “How can @kategarraway sit there and join in this conversation after how the NHS treated her husband.”
Another added: “I *really* hope, after her husband was treated by the NHS so fantastically recently, that KG was appalled at the idea.”
Other viewers pinpointed an “annoying habit” of Kates, as they urged the ITV star to let the show’s guest speak without interrupting. One fan fumed: “Kate !!!! Let the doctor speak. Omg what is wrong with this woman, she’s SO rude!!! #GMB.”
Another echoed their thoughts, adding: “Omg Kate! Give your mouth a rest, let others speak. Honestly her and Ranvir seriously have ego issues on a level with Lorraine. #GMB #Lorraine.”A third penned: “Kate takes 3 hours to ask the question, then interupts when Alex tries to answer !!#GMB.”
