Meghan Markle has made her first social media post in years, after previously closing down her blog and online accounts to join the Royal Family.

GB News stars Stephen Dixon and Ellie Costello today had their say on Meghan Markle’s sensational return to social media, savagely quizzing: “Why do we care?”

The debut post, which has seen Meghan attract over 700,000 Instagram followers, saw her wish the world a Happy New Year as she ran down a beach and spelt out “2025” in the sand. I just don’t get what it means – and why is it so grey?” quizzed Ellie, referring to the lack of sunshine on the Californian beach she was shooting from.

“And why do we care? It just rubs me up the wrong way,” Stephen agreed. He suggested that Meghan “desperately wants some love” via the online platform, while Ellie echoed that a section in Prince Harry’s book Spare discussed how the former working royal “gave up her social media at the palace’s behest, and she really didn’t want to”.

Stephen commented that one of his friends had already engaged with her and liked the debut post, but that he found the interest in the Duchess inexplicable, branding it “crackers”. “Does this mean in 2025 she wants to be a full-time influencer?” quizzed Ellie.

Stephen screwed up his face in distaste as he savagely shot back: “Is that a job nowadays?”

The pair then joked that she could begin a career as a “sand artist”, after watching the barefooted and bohemian-looking duchess etching the words “2025” into the beach.

Meghan seemingly made it her New Year’s resolution to relaunch a direct link between herself and the public, as the video – filmed by Prince Harry – was aired on New Year’s Day.

For now, she has disabled comments, making it impossible for followers to have their say, but the presence of other celebrities on the account, including tennis champ Serena Williams, has been registered via likes.

The video, created in Montecito, California. comes five years after she and Harry’s joint account, @sussexroyal, published its last post.

That post had pledged: “While you may not see us here, the work continues.”

The couple then stepped away from their royal duties to raise their family in the USA.

Meghan, who shares five-year-old son Archie and three-year-old daughter Lilibet with the Prince, had previously deactivated her accounts in January 2018 after announcing her engagement to Harry.

She revealed at the SXSW Conference that she’d experienced “hateful… bullying and abuse” on social media while pregnant with each of her children.
