ITV This Morning star says balcony ‘exploded’ in Storm Eowyn chaos

This Morning star Craig Doyle revealed how his home had been impacted by Storm Eowyn, which has caused devastation across the UK and Ireland.

Storm Éowyn: Craig Doyle shares damage done to his property

This Morning’s Craig Doyle shared a harrowing tale from his own home as Storm Eowyn wreaks havoc, leaving the UK reeling from its impact.

In Friday’s (January 24) episode of the daytime show, the TV star spoke from Wicklow National Park in Ireland, recounting the storm’s destruction.

“It’s pretty bad, actually. At 5 o’clock this morning it hit so hard, I’ve never heard winds like it,” he detailed to hosts Dermot O’Leary and Alison Hammond.

“About an hour ago there was a big explosion, and basically the wind came through and just ripped apart our balcony and all the glass smashed out of it,” he elaborated, prompting a horrified reaction from Alison: “Oh my god.”

“I know, it’s crazy right?” Doyle responded, describing the dramatic scene where forceful winds demolished his balcony and sent glass flying.

He remarked on the extraordinary nature of the winds: “That’s been there a long time, big wooden struts and it just ripped it all apart, glass flying everywhere, a huge smash. That’s scary winds, to do damage like that is really scary.”

Despite Ireland being no stranger to extreme weather, Craig labelled the intensity of Storm Eowyn as “unbelievable” and confided about joining a gas waiting list due to the widespread destruction.

Noting that repairs could take a week, he said: “It could take a week to fix all this stuff because of the amount of damage, so it does feel different. It feels a little scarier.”

Unsettled by the incident, he confessed, “I was really shocked, actually, when the balcony kind of exploded with the wind this morning. This house is built on a mountain and we built it to withstand heavy winds, but we haven’t experienced anything like this before. I’m a bit nervy being out here,” reports the Mirror.

Dermot has revealed that his parents in Wexford are preparing for the worst, charging their electrical devices, including hearing aids, in anticipation of power cuts as Storm Eowyn hits.

The storm reached the UK this morning, prompting red weather warnings in Northern Ireland and central Scotland.

A staggering wind speed of 114mph was recorded in Ireland earlier today, with the tumultuous conditions set to cause chaos across the country. Millions have been advised to remain indoors and avoid travel during the storm, leading to numerous school closures and train suspensions in certain regions.

This Morning airs weekdays on ITV at 10am
