Strictly Come Dancing’s Wynne Evans and Katya Jones were back on the dancefloor tonight for the first live show since their ‘inside joke’ went wrong
Strictly Come Dancing fans were left convinced Wynne Evans and Katya Jones ‘hate’ each other as they returned to the dancefloor.
The pair were forced to apologise after an “inside joke” went wrong. Wynne was seen with his hand on Katya’s waist, and when she tried to push him away, he did it again. A video of the moment went viral on social media, with fans expressing their concern.
Later, Wynne and Katya issued an apology, with Katya saying: “I have to make this absolutely clear, that this whole incident with the hand and the high five on Saturday night, it was an inside joke between Wynne and I. Was it a silly joke, yes, was it a bad joke, yes.”
After the weekend, Wynne admitted he was “heartbroken” by the backlash to the joke.
He said: “I’m absolutely heartbroken by the things that have been written about me in the last day. It’s not nice to live in that time, but basically Katya and I are really, really close and we’re really good friends, and on Saturday night we made a stupid joke. It was a stupid joke that went wrong, OK? We thought it was funny. It wasn’t funny. It has been totally misinterpreted.”
Tonight, they made their return to the dancefloor, where they performed Quickstep to Mr Blue Sky by Electric Light Orchestra – their first performance since the scandal broke last week. Whilst they appeared in the Sunday show, it was pre-recorded so tonight was the first time we saw them in a live show following the allegations that Katya looked “uncomfortable”, which she later denied.
On the show tonight, Wynne and Katya appeared in a video before their dance to Mr Blue Sky. Fans branded the video awkward, with one writing: “Wins the award for the most awkward VT #strictly.” A second added: “Wynne definitely lost some of his vibrancy in that VT #strictly.” A third penned: “Make the VT like you don’t hate each other #strictly,” with a fourth writing: “this vt is far too much, VERY unnatural #strictly.” A fifth shared: “WHOLESOME NON CONTROVERSIAL VT INCOMING #scd #strictly.”
