Jamie Carragher has urged Liverpool fans to keep a watchful eye on a potential replacement for Mohamed Salah.

Salah, Trent Alexander-Arnold and Virgil van Dijk’s current contracts expire at the end of the season and while rumors have been circulated about whether or not the Egyptian forward will extend his deal, nothing has yet been confirmed by the club.

Salah has bee integral to the Arne Slot’s success so far, racking up 29 goal contributions in all competitions already this season. However should the 32-year-old decide to leave, Liverpool will have their work cut out to find a suitable replacement.

Speaking to Sky Sports, Carragher discussed two players who could potentially fill that role at Liverpool. The former Reds defender was asked about whether Bryan Mbeumo and Antoine Semenyo could replace Salah.

The pundit has some reservations about Mbeumo’s expected goals numbers, but he also believes that £9m ($11.3m) Semenyo is worth keeping an eye on, especially given Richard Hughes’ connections to Bournemouth.

Carragher was asked: “Bryan Mbeumo is someone who has been talked about as a Salah replacement, and we’ve seen Antoine Semenyo talked about as a Salah replacement as well. If Salah was to leave in the summer, can you see a player from a mid-table Premier League club being used or a superstar?”

“I think Liverpool’s model is to sign those players who are a bit under the radar” says Carragher. “It’s not Liverpool might lose Salah let’s go and buy a superstar for £120m. I don’t think that would be the case. They want the next quality player.

“I think the problem with Mbeumo is this season he’s really overperformed his xG, so in some ways, that’s a bit of a worry. If someone’s overperforming those numbers you know there will be a regression at some stage.

“You mentioned Richard Hughes before, he’s going to know Semenyo really well isn’t he, so that might be one to keep an eye out on.”
