Susanna Reid was forced to prematurely stop an interview on Good Morning Britain this morning (January 8) as she claimed that the topic at hand had “drifted”. The ITV host, who was co-presenting the show alongside Ed Balls, welcomed on the father of tech guru Elon Musk – Errol Musk.

The hosts had been questioning the dad on whether or not he has spoken to his son, Elon, about the breakdown of his relationship with the Reform UK leader Nigel Farage. However, as Errol spoke live from video link in Cape Town, the topic soon somehow turned into him comparing Tommy Robinson to Nelson Mandela and his thoughts on a referendum in Canada.

As the conversation took a turn, Susanna was forced to step in. She announced: “Right, Errol, thank you very much indeed but I feel that we’re drifting slightly from the core issues for our audience.”

She looked awkward as she shuffled some papers, with a tense look on her face, as Errol disappeared from screen and she addressed the viewers at home saying: “I think we slightly drifted away from how democracy works and the legal system in this country as well.”

Ed cut in, adding: “I love the idea of somebody being relatively innocent.” But Susanna just sighed and rolled her eyes before moving on.

Fans at home were baffled as to why the ITV show even chose to have Errol make an appearance in the first place. Posting to social media, namely X/Twitter, one fan wrote: “Ffs #GMB – why the hell are they interviewing Elon Musk’s father?

“Why are they allowing him to wade into the child abuse scandal, giving him a platform to claim that Nelson Mandela was worse than Tommy Robinson?”

Another asked: “#GMB what are we watching & listening too here?” With another echoing: “Why are you giving him air time?”

One more said: “Don’t think this was a good idea GMB, quick cut to the break.”

“You had him comparing Tommy Robinson to Mandela but better because Mandela was a terrorist. Seriously what the hell were you thinking having him on!! @YvetteCooperMP have a word with your husband will you!,” someone else complained.

With another person posting: “Stop giving f**king idiots like Errol Musk airtime #GMB.”
