BBC Strictly’s Amy Dowden moves co-star pro into her home ahead of live tour

Amy Dowden has opened up about her Strictly Come Dancing co-star Carlos Gu moving into her home.

Since the finale of Strictly Come Dancing, professional choreographer Amy Dowden has been busy making over her home in the Midlands.

As she prepares for the live tour to kick off next week, the 34-year-old has moved her co-star Carlos Gu in.

With the help of builders, Amy has been converting part of her house into a bedroom for the Chinese native after the duo enjoyed the festive season together.

The tour holds a deep significance for Amy as she feels “reborn” following her heart-wrenching battle with breast cancer and her premature Strictly exit.

After she was forced to withdraw, Lauren Oakley stepped up as JB Gill’s dance partner, and together, they made it to the final.

Despite missing the second half of the competition, Amy confirmed that she would return to the stage via the live tour and take turns with Lauren to dance with JB.

On the routines where she’s not dancing with the JLS star, Amy will be paired with Carlos – who did not have a celebrity partner during the 2024 series.

On their partnership, Amy said: “Carlos is the perfect height for me. Same height as my husband, who was my dance partner. It is important.”

She recently told The Guardian: “We both feel reborn. Me after my cancer journey and him after moving to the UK and finally being able to – he feels – be true to himself.

“Being gay, he’s accepted in the UK, and here he can wear the clothes he wants, be the Carlos Gu that he had been holding back. We’ve both got a strong story to tell.”

Amy added: “I want to push and do all I can. Because I had it all taken away from me. And I just want to soak it up and enjoy it after everything I’ve been through.”

The pair have formed a close bond, as this marks the second Christmas the dancers have spent together.
