Selena Gomez has joked about the reason why she thinks she was single for so long – and she reckons it has something to do with eating beans.

The 32-year-old singer and actress made the rather shocking admission during a conversation with Zoe Saldaña in a new video shared by LADbible TV, in which the two women discussed the internet’s biggest debates.

One of the first statements read out was: ‘Dinner on a first date is always a bad move,’ and Selena was quick to share her thoughts as she blurted out: ‘I disagree, why wouldn’t I wanna have dinner?’

Zoe, 46, pointed out: ‘Well, I mean if you’re having like beans and stuff on your first dinner and then you guys, after dinner, go and do something else, I don’t know what that’s gonna do to your body,’ as Selena responded: ‘Oh I see…’

‘And that may be uncomfortable,’ Zoe added, which led to Selena admitting: ‘Maybe that’s why I was single for so long!’ as the two women burst out laughing.

‘You like beans?’ Zoe asked her, as the former Disney Channel star confirmed: ‘I do,’ as Zoe replied: ‘That’s amazing, I love beans!’

Elaborating more on having dinner on first dates, Selena then said: ‘I guess it depends on the situation, because I love to have one-on-one time.

‘I think I do better that way in general, even like at a party I’ll find the one person that will sit and talk with me and stay there all night, so I kind of enjoy the idea.

‘But yeah, sometimes being in a group setting and that kind of helps too. But I went on a first date with my boyfriend and I loved it. It was so sweet,’ she added, referring to Benny Blanco.

‘And you guys had dinner?’ Zoe asked, as Selena confirmed: ‘Yeah, we had wine and dinner.’

Zoe pointed out: ‘But it depends on what you’re eating. Like, I would never, and I don’t think I’ve ever, ever picked Mexican food or Indian food or Dominican food to have.’

Selena then laughed and admitted: ‘That’s all the things I want when I’m on a date!’

Selena and her boyfriend Benny went public with the relationship almost one year ago in December 2023, and their romance seems to be going from strength-to-strength.

Earlier this week, Selena publicly gushed about her man on Instagram after he was featured in People Magazine’s Sexiest Man Alive issue.

The Emilia Pérez actress took to her Instagram Stories to repost one of the photos from the magazine, which saw the Grammy-nominated producer, 36, laying on a table with pizza in front of him.

‘Not only do you love me unconditionally, you always get me my Taco Bell Mexican pizza,’ Selena wrote underneath the snap.

Justin Bieber‘s ex-girlfriend also tagged Benny in her second post, where she shared a quote from William C. Hannan that read: ‘I still haven’t figured out how to sit across from you, and not be madly in love with everything you do.’
