The 1% Club viewers are left baffled as festive-themed question knocks out 28 contestants – but would you have got it right?

Viewers of The 1% Club were left baffled during this year’s Christmas special as a festive-themed question saw more than quarter of contestants wiped out.

The ITV game show features a studio audience who all face ‘logic and common sense’-style questions in a bid to win up to £100,000.

All questions have been put to members of the public beforehand, and the percentage of those who answered correctly goes down at each stage.

To stay in the game, players in the studio must either answer correctly or use their single £1000 pass lifeline.

They are gradually whittled down until the final question which only 1% of people in the country can answer.

However, on this year’s Christmas special, it was the second question that left a lot of contestants stumped.

The question featured two versions of a festive themed photo and asked: 'What is the only item which does NOT appear in both images?'

The answer was a missing pair of Santa’s legs but viewers were shocked that 28 contestants got the question wrong.

Taking to X, they wrote: ‘What on earth were those 28 people looking at?’

‘How did anyone in the history of this planet get it wrong?’… ’28 people getting the second question wrong!’

The 1% Club has become a hit for ITV since it was launched in 2022, and regularly pulls in more than four million viewers.

Lee previously admitted that while he ‘can’t take any credit’ for the format of the show, he thought it would work from the start.

Speaking on the RHLSTP podcast, he said: ‘I can’t take any credit for it because it’s not my format.

‘On the pilot episode I said, ‘There is no way these 100 contestants are going to laugh at my jokes, they will be too busy trying to win the £100,000.

‘I didn’t get any laughs, but I did think, ‘This is a good format as my jokes are so brilliant.’

‘They have cast people who are bright and fun and, even though you think about serious quizzers doing it, no same person will get it right every time.’
