BBC Breakfast presenter Carol Kirkwood was forced to defend herself on air following a cheeky swipe from co-star Ben Thompson

BBC Breakfast star Sally Nugent was there to back up Carol Kirkwood after co-stars ‘cheeky’ swipe live on air.

During Wednesday (October 16) edition of the morning favourite, Sally lit up the screens along with her show co-host Ben Thompson, giving the nation their daily dose of headline news.

Weather presenter Carol, 62, later joined the duo to dish out the latest meteorological update. Leaping into her element, Carol dropped a heads-up about some pesky weather rolling in and told viewers to brace for lashings of rain and howling gales.

She gave the lowdown, saying: “Looks like we will have strong winds for some but across the Northwest we could have severe gales so that is something to watch out for, particularly if you’re travelling or maybe camping for example but the position of it may yet change so that’s one we’re looking at closely so just wanted to give you a heads up.”

Eager to find out more, Sally probed further: “Carol, that is really useful to know. It’s Wednesday today, how long will we have to wait for Sunday’s forecast to be firmer? “, reports the Express.

Cool as a cucumber, Carol reckoned they’d pin it down soon, telling her: “Just a day or two, Sal. With each passing day it becomes firmer. So it really is one we’re watching so tomorrow we’re hoping to have a better idea on where it is going to go.”

But then the atmosphere got a tad cringe-worthy when Ben couldn’t resist a cheeky jibe at Carol, quipping about hiding dodgy weather behind herself.

A puzzled Carol gestured to her outfit and quipped: “What are you saying? You cheeky thing, Ben.” The studio erupted in giggles while Sally jumped to her rescue, remarking: “I’ll be having words with him.” Ben chimed in with a grin: “I’m in trouble.”
