In the last few days, fans have been pointing out that LeBron James‘ new exclusive kicks, the Nike LeBron TR 1, bear a striking resemblance to the upcoming Freak 6 by Giannis Antetokounmpo.
While there are some clear differences between the two, such as the distinct neon and green-black color arrangements, the similarities have sparked debate among sneakerheads across the board.
Despite this, King James seems to be pleased with a newer tribute that the billion-dollar sports apparel giant has created for him.
The new Nike LeBron TR 1 shoe design comes at a time when Slam magazine celebrates its 30th anniversary and its long-lasting partnership with LeBron James’ early career.
The new exclusive pair of kicks, unveiled just hours ago for the retro Cavs poster-boy, draws inspiration from his rookie season and his first shoe, the Air Zoom Generation.
The red and black colorways link back to the cover of Slam magazine’s issue 78 and the shoe’s first print ad.
The shoe also features chrome-free parts inspired by LeBron James’ first car and a custom laser-etched panel with Slam’s logo in black and details from his rookie season.
Additionally, for the first time, the Zoom Generation includes a collar Swoosh logo, as originally sketched by designer Aaron Cooper.
The hooper was quick to repost the video on his Instagram story and drop 11 fire emojis alongside 6 high-fives and one crown emoji! With LeBron James nearing the end of his legendary NBA career, this Nike x Slam collaboration would’ve definitely put a smile on his face, even while all the haters giving his new Nike TR1s a hard time, just after its unveil!
A sneak peek at the New Nike TR1s and the backlash LeBron James faces
The Nike LeBron TR 1, inspired by the Nike Metcon series, is coming in a Smoke Grey/Volt colorway that nods to the classic Air Max 95 style.
It features a durable and versatile design with a breathable mesh and synthetic upper in smoke grey. The bright volt accents on the Swoosh add a pop of contrast, and LeBron James’ personal branding is on the tongue tag.
The shoe includes a cushioned midsole for comfort and an outsole with an elevated grip. It’s set to release this week!
LeBron James first showcased the Nike LeBron TR 1 in a United States colorway during Team USA’s exhibition match against Canada in July.
Since then, the shoes have garnered significant attention, and fans were eager for that edition to be released.
However, the new colorway has irked many in the fanbase, prompting them to call it a “rip off” of other tributes to NBA stars.

Throughout his 20-year basketball career, 39-year-old LeBron James has landed deals with big brands like Coca-Cola, Louis Vuitton, and Audemars Piguet.
But his partnership with Nike has been the standout. The veteran signed a lifetime deal with Nike in December 2015, and he earns around $32 million a year, according to Forbes’ Justin Birnbaum.
As the NBA’s All-Time Leading scorer returns for his 22nd season, the 4x MVP will be teaming up with Anthony Davis in hopes of securing a Championship for the Lakers after last season’s disappointing playoff elimination.
