An industry expert projects that Meghan’s Instagram could place her among the same level as global celebrities.

With careful branding, purposeful collaborations, and strategic monetisation, the Duchess of Sussex has the potential to not only reshape her own narrative but also create an Instagram empire worth millions.

Meghan Markle made her long-awaited return to Instagram on New Year’s Day – five years after she last posted there.

But while the account, with the handle @meghan was registered on the platform in June 2022, Meghan waited for the turn of the year to upload a post.

A social media expert has claimed if Meghan plays her cards right, she could be earning the sorts of fees obtained by celebrities like the Kardashians.

Social media expert Eric Schiffer told the Daily Mail: “I would expect her to quickly become one of the most followed accounts on Instagram. You have celebrities like the Kardashians who can command $1 million (£800,000) and up for a single post promoting a product. There is no reason Meghan couldn’t be earning those sorts of fees.”

Despite Meghan deciding to turn off her comment section on her Instagram posts, social media experts claim that the former actress could cash in that amount as an “absolute minimum” following her social media return.

The Duchess previously revealed she would make a return to social media during her interview with New York Magazine’s The Cut where she confided: “Do you want to know a secret? I’m getting back… on Instagram.”

Meghan and Harry who married in 2018 were initially part of @KensingtonRoyal social media, which also included Harry’s brother, Prince William, and his wife, Kate Middleton.

But a year later, Meghan and Harry launched their own account, @SussexRoyal, a sign of their growing distance from the royal family. @SussexRoyal, however, discontinued in 2020 when they made their shock announcement to step down as working royals.

Just hours after Meghan’s surprise return to Instagram on New Year’s Day, 2025, Meghan shared the new trailer of her Netflix show ‘With Love, Meghan’ on her account – as well as it being released on all of Netflix’s social media platforms too.
