Angel Reese’s impact is seemingly transcending the WNBA and reaching unexpected fields. The Chicago Sky forward was mentioned by Chicago Mayor Brandon Jackson while he closed the Democratic National Convention in the city.

Jackson had some things to get off his chest against the people who doubted that the Windy City could host the convention that featured Presidential candidate Kamala Harris. He found a unique way to do so by using Reese’s famous words from 2023.

“After pulling off the best convention this country has ever seen … in the words of Skytown’s very own Angel Reese, ‘What they gonna say now?'”

Angel Reese had said the same in April 2023 after leading the LSU Tigers to the national championship win for the first time in the school’s history. Following the game, Reese sent a clear message to doubters.

“What they gonna say now?” Reese repeatedly asked into the camera.

These words have resonated with plenty of people and Mayor Jackson isn’t the only one to invoke them. After winning the first NBA championship of his career, Jayson Tatum quoted Reese too.

“First of all, God is the greatest. Not cause we won but he put me in a position to maximize my God-given abilities, to surround me with these guys, my family. This is an incredible feeling. … It’s been a long journey. We have a resilient group. We’ve been through a lot over the last couple of years, over my seven years (in Boston). What they gonna say now? What they gonna say now?!” Tatum said in June.

Angel Reese comments on upcoming 2024 Presidential elections

Being in the position she’s been in after becoming a star in college and a Rookie of the Year candidate in the WNBA, Angel Reese’s voice has taken more importance.

On Thursday, she was asked about her thoughts on Vice President and Presidential candidate Kamala Harris. Reese explained that she doesn’t have the knowledge to give a deeper response on that matter.

“I haven’t been able to tap a lot into the political election and everything going on. I’m not educated right now but just continue to learn and give feedback. Everybody go out there and vote! I recommend that and I just tell a lot of people out there to go out and vote ’cause we need it for this election.”

Contrary to what other players like Steph Curry have done, Angel Reese was honest about her lack of knowledge on this topic. She still insisted that people need to vote.
