Early this month, Angel Reese suffered a season-ending wrist injury that required her to undergo surgery. The injury couldn’t have happened at a worse time for Reese and the Sky, with the team eventually falling out of postseason contention in her absence.

Now, after the Sky wrapped up the 2024 WNBA season, Reese is fully focused on recovering and returning to the court next season. According to a report from the Chicago Tribune’s Julia Poe on Tuesday, Angel Reese’s recovery is going well, and the forward is ready to begin the next phase of recovery.

After Reese previously joked that a wrist injury wouldn’t stop her from being around the team, she has relayed an update about her condition:

“Everything is going well. Hoping to get the removable cast off on Oct. 8 and then begin physical therapy. Has been able to train regularly and do some one-handed work in the meantime.”

Angel Reese reflects on season-ending wrist injury that brought an end to her rookie year

Throughout her rookie season, Angel Reese broke a couple of WNBA records. For example, Reese’s 13.1 rebounds per game set a new single-season benchmark.

Similarly, her 15 straight double-doubles this year also set a WNBA record, along with her 26 double-doubles being the second-most ever recorded in a season.

While there had been chatter about her on-court rivalry with Caitlin Clark, the pair both thrived in different ways throughout the year.

Angel Reese recently took to social media to reflect on her rookie season. In her message, she wrote,

“What a year. I never would have imagined the last bucket of my rookie season would be a 3 but maybe that was God saying give them a taste of what they will be seeing more of in Year 2 lol.

“Through it all, I have showed that I belong in this league even when no one else believed. All I have ever wanted was to come into the W and make an impact. … I’m filled with emotions right now that I have a season ending injury, but also filled with so much gratitude for what is next.”

With the NBA season right around the corner, the expectation is that the WNBA will announce their schedule in either November or December, according to CBS Sports.
