BBC Breakfast viewers were left unimpressed on Saturday morning when an unexpected guest appeared on the show. Regular hosts Naga Munchetty and Ben Thompson were joined by Jeremy Vine, who was sporting a festive jumper and discussing the likelihood of a white Christmas and popular holiday films.

The Channel 5 presenter, seated next to a roaring fire, brought a touch of Christmas spirit to the programme. He said: “A lot of what governs our behaviour, our memories and thoughts is Hollywood and it’s that thing that someone just synced up snow and Christmas in movies.”

However, Mr Vine then shared a controversial opinion, saying: “The most awful one being that, what’s that garbage?” After a pause, he continued: “It’s a Wonderful Life. I can’t stand it. And I know I’m not allowed to say that.”

Viewers at home were less than thrilled with both his comments, reports the Express. One viewer took to Twitter (now known as X) to express their disappointment, writing: “Jeremy Vine ! – But then again .. I suppose BBC sees Vine as some warm-hearted ‘uncle-figure’.”

Another added: “Just when you think #bbcbreakfast couldn’t possibly get any worse, up pops #jeremyvine,” while a third chimed in with: “Jeremy Vine? I’m off. #BBCBreakfast.”

Earlier in the week, Naga shared disappointing news that dampened the festive spirit. She and co-host Ben Thompson were discussing the Christmas weather forecast when she said: “I hate to burst someone’s bubble, but no white Christmas this year,” to which Ben chimed in: “No snowball fights.”

Lead BBC weather presenter Simon King joined the show to discuss what he knew was host Naga’s “favourite day”, the Winter Solstice.

“No white Christmas, it has been mild, but listen I know this is your favourite day of the year, isn’t it?” Simon asked, turning to Naga who enthusiastically replied: “Today is! It’s the Winter Solstice – and it’s the shortest day.”
