I’m A Celebrity fans inundated Reverend Richard Coles with support as they slammed presenter Ant McPartlin’s joke ahead of the celebrity cyclone.
I’m a Celebrity … Get Me Out of Here! returned to ITV with its eagerly awaited episode, which saw the four remaining stars take on the highly anticipated celebrity cyclone.
Reverand Richard Coles, Coleen Rooney, Strictly’s Oti Mabuse, and singer Danny Jones changed into superhero outfits before meeting Ant and Dec for the fun trial.
As the presenters introduced the action-packed challenge, they shared jokes and banter with the celebrities, including a “python” joke about Danny’s tight shorts.
However, Ant sparked backlash from viewers when he told Richard: “There are definitely balls in this trial, but just not the ones you’re used to.”
Taking to social media with shock, @DoucheAmuse questioned: “Not the balls you’re used to”? WtF was that from Ant to Rev. Richard?”
Richard laughed off the joke.
A stunned @jacceberx echoed: “AS IF ANT JUST SAID THAT ABOUT BALLS TO REV RICHARD #ImACeleb #imacelebrity.”
@rubyisragin slammed: “I CAN’T WITH ALL THE DIRTY JOKES MY MUM IS RIGHT NEXT TO ME.”
As @SDMorpeth remarked: “That’s a bit harsh by Ant to the Rev, ‘There’s definitely balls in this trial, but just not the ones you’re used to.'”
The stars took on the celebrity cyclone.
Earlier in the series, Richard opened up about being a gay reverend during a candid conversation with GK Barry.
After, she asked: “Did you find it quite difficult being gay and doing that job?”
The 62-year-old said: “No, not at all. I’ve never given it a moment’s twinge of anxiety over whether God thought it was all right or not. Whether other people thought it was alright or not, well, I’m happy to have that argument…”
Speaking on his sexuality, he added: “Also, I was not the first. Sometimes I look at documents from the early church, or the church of the middle ages, and I just think – so gay.”
